Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard

I will put as a disclaimer here: This is my least favorite book of the series.
Mare and Cal escaped Maven’s grasp and execution with the help of the Scarlet Guard. However, rather than trusting Mare and Cal fully, the Scarlet Guard locks up Cal in a cell because he’s royalty, and later lock up Mare with the help of Kilorn. However, Kilorn redeems himself shortly after and frees both of them from the cell.
Mare has a list that she received from Julian, the Silver scholar she learned from while at the castle and Cal’s uncle (his mom’s brother), that shows Mare where every person who is also a newblood so that Mare and her crew can find them before Maven does since he knows about the list.
This book was really hard for me to read. The storyline was great and very enjoyable, but for a majority of this book, I found it difficult to tolerate Mare. She has a personality that I wouldn’t expect from someone in her situation. Her ego was really hard for me to get along with in this book. The way she talks about herself and her goals always felt conceited to me, but it might just be I didn’t understand her character in this book that well.
I am also not a fan of the relationship development in this book. I do not think Cal was at the point in his feelings to say “That’s my girl”.
By the end of the book I still did not like her, but the cliffhanger at the end of this book was a really great choice. The new characters that were met in this book such as Cameron, who has the ability to cancel out people, with or without abilities, and she is also immune to the silent stone that also nullifies people with abilities. The creativity with the different abilities has been very fun to witness and enjoy.
Finally, I hate Jon. Thank you Victoria Aveyard for providing me the perfect reason why I should never trust anyone who says they do not have a side.
